After preparing your face with a pH-balancing toner, you can begin the rest of your routine. As a rule of thumb: work from the thinnest consistency (essence) to the thickest (moisturizer).
1. Exception: Eye Creams
Although most products in our range are very gentle, non-eye care products are generally not tested specifically for the delicate eye area. It is best practice to nourish and protect this thin skin with a product formulation created and tested specifically for the eye contour.
Some prefer applying eye cream before their essence or serum, while others apply it afterward. At Haru Haru, we recommend applying your eye care before the rest of your facial products. This immediately protects the eye area and prevents you from accidentally applying general face products too close to your eyes.
2. Exception: AHA, BHA & Vitamin C Serums
Products with a low pH value (acids) perform most effectively when applied directly to freshly cleansed skin. Use these products right after cleansing according to the following order:
Some of these active ingredients require time to fully absorb. Waiting 10 to 15 minutes before continuing your routine will give you optimal results. However, if your skin is sensitive, dry, or dehydrated, apply these products directly after your toner and continue your routine immediately without waiting.
3. Exception: Facial Oils
Facial oils usually take about 10 minutes to absorb, leaving a light protective layer over the skin barrier. This makes oil ideal for evening routines to lock in hydration and nourish skin overnight.
During the day, facial oil is less suitable if you wear makeup, as oil can dissolve your BB cream, foundation, or other cosmetics. We recommend skipping facial oil during the day if you plan on applying makeup.
Sun Protection
- Application
Apply sun protection in the morning as the final step of your skincare routine, right after your moisturizer and before makeup. - Waiting Time
If your sunscreen uses mineral (physical) filters such as Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide (such as the Oh My Sun Protection by Yadah), it provides immediate protection and you can head outdoors right away. If your sunscreen relies exclusively on chemical filters, wait about 5 minutes for the product to form an even protective layer on the skin. - Reapplying
Reapply sun protection every 2 hours for optimal UV defense. Reapplying over makeup can be tricky, but options like cushion sunscreens, SPF-infused BB cushions, or DIY sunscreen compacts make touching up on the go simple and convenient.
