Oily Skin

An overproduction of sebum leaves the skin looking shiny and feeling greasy. While natural sebum protects the skin against environmental stressors and premature aging, an excess can easily clog pores, leading to breakouts, blackheads, and uneven skin texture.

Oily Skin Icon

Characteristics

  • Feels comfortable immediately after cleansing, but grows greasy quickly.
  • Noticeably shiny or slick, especially by midday or evening.
  • Makeup tends to fade, slide, or wear off quickly.
  • Visible, enlarged pores around the T-zone or cheeks.
  • Prone to frequent breakouts, pimples, and blackheads.

Skincare Goal

Hydrating oily skin is essential, but heavy or rich formulas can exacerbate congestion by clogging pores. Focus on lightweight, water-based hydrators that deliver moisture without a greasy feel. Applying lightweight products in thin layers is key!

Recommended: Refreshing hydrators, light toners, and lightweight moisturizers (emulsions, gels, lotions, or gel-creams). Pore-targeting serums, BHA exfoliants, and clay or charcoal masks work well to clear deep impurities.

Avoid: Heavy creams and highly comedogenic oils (such as coconut oil) that trap sebum in pores. Note that non-comedogenic oils with a balanced fatty-acid profile (such as jojoba oil) can still work wonderfully for oily skin.
