Oily skin needs no moisturizer

Moisturizer: A product designed to provide the skin with a hydrating and protective barrier, preventing moisture and nourishment from evaporating too easily. There are different names for various textures within the moisturizer family (ordered from light to rich: emulsion, gel, lotion, gel-cream, cream).

Myth: "My skin is already oily on its own, I don't need a moisturizer to hydrate it. Plus, a cream will just make my skin even oilier."

Fact: Even oily skin still needs a protective barrier — just choose one that works for you.

Regardless of skin type and/or concerns, we use a moisturizer to protect the skin and ensure that the moisture and nourishment from our skincare do not evaporate. The barrier also makes it harder for dirt and other negative environmental factors to penetrate our skin.

For oily skin, choose a texture that feels light on the skin and will not weigh it down. Go for ingredients that can hydrate the skin without clogging the pores (such as: glycerin, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, squalane, but avoid cocoa butter, lanolin, petrolatum, palm oil, and most nut oils).

Do you really have oily skin, or is it oily due to a lack of moisture?

Dehydrated skin is skin with a damaged barrier that tries to protect itself and provide moisture by producing more sebum. This means the skin is actually struggling with moisture and nutrient loss, which is why a moisturizer is very much needed here.
